MOONDANCE EXPEDITIONS | NEWSLETTER #3

Ahoy Sailor,

It’s been two months since our last update, and we’ve enjoyed eight more weeks of winter fun in Northern Norway! We’ve sailed and skied across Lyngen, Senja, Finnmark, Stjernøya, and Seiland, completing three trips between Tromsø and Alta, with the rest in Finnmark. As the winter season comes to an end, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our partners and guests!

A special shoutout to our new team members Leon, Hugo, and Hugo, who have proven to be Arctic-proof! Many thanks to Chris, Erin, Tom, and Julie, who have been with us for many years now. The consistent client feedback this year highlights our team’s professionalism and endless passion for the sail & ski concept. That means a lot to us!

For winter 2025, we’ll continue to use Finnmark as our home base, operating out of Øksfjord. Our focus will be on enhancing the skiing experience, avoiding crowds, and easily accessing the many options around. This will also give us more opportunities to explore the remote islands around Finnmark, like Sørøya, Stjernøya, and Seiland, for exceptional skiing. We’ll be running trips for 8-9 weeks in Finnmark and might even extend our skiing adventures to Svalbard. Next season is already filling up fast, so feel free to reach out and secure your spot!

Up Next: Research Expedition to Bear Island

Together with Gate To The Arctic, we are organizing a research expedition to Bear Island, an island far out in the Barents Sea. We are taking scientists and students with the main goals of mapping marine debris, cleaning certain beaches, and taking water samples to assess macroplastics in the area. Additionally, we aim to create content for an educational program about the environmental challenges facing the Arctic, focusing on plastic pollution. The content will be disseminated to young students and other interested parties worldwide through our partners in the education sector. Equipped with Starlink, we will provide a partial livestream throughout the expedition.

Up Next: Lofoten Summer Sailing

We have an extraordinary new experience as we sail around the Lofoten Archipelago, spending seven days off-grid trail running in the most remarkable places. Together with our partners Mud Sweat Trails and Pure Trails, we are making this happen for the first in the Arctic.

There are two open departures in our summer program up in Lofoten. Let us know if you are interested in chartering Moondance. We are happy to offer a guided sailing, hiking, exploration, and relaxation trip. You can also charter Moondance and do your own thing at attractive rates. Dates:

July 01st – July 7th
July 15th – July 21st

Up Next: Youth Impact Expeditions in August

On the Moondance, we offer more space for projects with a positive impact on people and nature. After three years with our new ship Moondance, it seems we’re finally reaching the point where we can cover our annual costs. This coming August, we’re organizing two separate 14-day youth expeditions where eight participants per week can sign up. The projects will be organized in collaboration with participants from youth organizations across Europe and will take place aboard the sailing ship Moondance. You can still sign up as a participant for this trip. We are also looking for funds and partnership to make it a succes. Let us know if you like to become part of this project.
