Sail & Ski Steigen

BOAT ACCES SKIING IN THE REMOTE STEIGEN & FAMOUS LOFOTEN
We invite you to join us aboard our expedition sailing vessel, “Moondance,” for an extraordinary sailing and skiing experience in Northern Norway. The Steigen area remains untouched, wild, and pristine, providing easy access to stunning summits. The fjords we explore typically lack roads, and only a handful of houses or settlements dot their landscapes. This adventure promises to immerse you in the true spirit of an expedition.

There is a variety of ascents & descents for everyone and with our boat we offer a flexible itinerary. Hone your sailing skills, enjoy a relaxing detox, escape from your daily routine and discover breathtaking nature.. You don’t want to miss this!

Please note that the 2025 trip from 21-28 Feb starts in Bodø and ends in Harstad.

Along the route, we will also explore Sjunkhatten National Park, characterized by saw-tooth peaks, deep valleys, and rounded mountains. One of the most captivating experiences awaits at Helldalisen, a glacier standing at 1351 meters, offering a stunning panoramic view across Steigen and Lofoten. This trip is scheduled from the end of February to the end of March, providing approximately 8-10 hours of sunlight, mostly stable weather conditions, and excellent opportunities to witness the Northern Lights.

The point of embarkation and disembarkation for this journey is Bodø Harbour. Depending on conditions, we may also embark or conclude our journey in Kjerringøy, 1 hour away from Bodø. As the departure date nears, we will keep you informed of any updates. You can conveniently reach Bodø by flying from Oslo. Another option is to fly directly to Trondheim and then take the train to Bodø, which takes approximately 8 hours and is highly recommended. YOUR STAY

Moondance, a 56ft Koopmans, draws its design inspiration from Dick Koopmans’ sailing ship “De Jager,” winner of the “Round of Britain 2006” and “Cold Handed Cup 2007.” This makes Moondance a truly exceptional vessel, purpose-built for expeditions and the unforgiving Arctic. With its lofty central lounge, comfy accommodations for nine, an array of heaters, a well-appointed bathroom inc. shower, and generous storage, Moondance combines adventure and comfort in one package, promising unforgettable journeys on the high seas.

How is life on board?
A sailing trip with Moondance Expeditions is a unique vacation. We are dependent on the elements, which requires a flexible attitude towards the program, the people, and expectations. In principle, we take the lead and initiative in everything. The captain guides you in their choices and asks for input. Based on our experience, guests feel more involved when they can participate in everyday activities on board. We always ask for a flexible and proactive attitude. The space can sometimes feel small, which is why we will regularly check in with you to ensure everything is meeting your expectations.
