Join us for an unforgettable spearfishing expedition aboard our vessel, the Moondance, as we explore the islands of Kvaløya, Ringvassøya, and Vannøya. Renowned for their remoteness and home to the world’s largest halibut and cod, these islands offer some of the best spearfishing experiences available. We’ve scheduled this trip for early September to take advantage of optimal temperatures, weather, and visibility.

This adventure will be guided by spearfishing expert Eivind Larsen, who will lead us to hidden gems in the fjords. Powered by the wind, we’ll navigate through the fjords, anchoring next to most renowned spearfishing destinations in the Arctic. Designed for those looking to improve their spearfishing skills or land their first fish in Norway, this trip also offers plenty of time for sailing, hiking, relaxing, and more!

The islands north of Tromsø are renowned for their breathtaking beauty, stunning landscapes, abundant wildlife, and exceptional fishing opportunities. With over eight years of experience in Northern Norway, we consider these fjords our backyard. We know many beautiful anchorages and secluded spots, and with Eivind’s expertise, we make a great team.

The islands of Kvaløya, Ringvassøya, and Vannøya offer more than just cod and halibut spearfishing. Year-round, we catch massive coalfish, large plaice, and deep-water species like wolffish and redfish. The cold Arctic waters surrounding these islands sustain rich fish populations, drawing anglers from around the world.

The embarkation and disembarkation point for this journey is Tromsø Harbour, a historic site where many legendary adventurers began their journeys. Tromsø Airport is easily accessible via Oslo, with many direct international flights from Europe connecting travelers straight to Tromsø. Please note that it is advisable to arrive at least one day before your departure. For your return, the best option is to book a flight in the afternoon or evening on the final day.



DAY ONE

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival in Tromsø, the Moondance awaits you in the guest harbour. After unpacking and getting settled in, it’s time for a skipper’s meeting. Here, we will brief you on the plan, discuss everyone’s expectations, and address safety matters. In the evening or after a good night’s rest, we set sail!

DAY TWO - SIX

Day 2-6: Sailing and Spear Fishing

We explore the islands of Kvaløya, Ringvassøya, and Vannøya from a unique perspective: the water. The route we follow is packed with highlights and hidden gems where we will Spear and lern the best techniques from Spear Fishing Guide Eivind. Our sailing ship Moondance ensures that you get up close to nature and visit places where no one else goes. Our daily program starts after a delicious breakfast. Before and afterwards, there is plenty of time to relax, hike, sail, visit (cultural) historical sites, fish, read a book, and so on. Usually, we sail each day to end up at a new dock or anchor spot every day.

DAY 7

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, it’s time for a hug. We assist you with a good travel route and then wave you off. On to the next sailing adventure!

Moondance, a 56ft Koopmans, draws its design inspiration from Dick Koopmans’ sailing ship “De Jager,” winner of the “Round of Britain 2006” and “Cold Handed Cup 2007.” This makes Moondance a truly exceptional vessel, purpose-built for expeditions and the unforgiving Arctic. How do I get there?

The point of embarkation and disembarkation for this journey is Tromsø Harbour. From 12pm you are welcome on arrival day and at 10am we wave you goodbye at departure day. Tromsø Airport is easily accessible via Oslo, with many direct international flights from Europe connecting travelers straight to Tromsø.

Recommendations for flying to Tromsø:
– Google Flights or Skyscanner to find flights and book directly at the Airliner. Norwegian Air or SAS are the most common.

Please note that it is advisable to arrive at least one day before your departure. For your return, the best option is to book a flight in the afternoon or evening on the final day.

How is life on board?

A sailing trip with Moondance Expeditions is a unique vacation. We are dependent on the elements, which requires a flexible attitude towards the program, the people, and expectations. In principle, we take the lead and initiative in everything. The captain guides you in their choices and asks for input. Based on our experience, guests feel more involved when they can participate in everyday activities on board. We always ask for a flexible and proactive attitude. The space can sometimes feel small, which is why we will regularly check in with you to ensure everything is meeting your expectations.

What is on the menu?

During the journey, we provide a variety of delicious and nutritious dishes to ensure your well-being:

Continental breakfast: includes eggs, fresh bread, fruit salad, and more.
Lunch: either premade sandwiches for onshore excursions or a hot meal.
Dinner: a diverse menu featuring self-caught fish, pasta, curry, traditional dishes, Asian cuisine, and more.
Snacks: assortment of cheese, bars, chips, etc.

Level of the voyage?

This voyage is open to both newcomers and experienced sailors. Our goal is to refine your sailing skills along the route, and we will tailor our approach to accommodate participants at any skill level. We can strike a balance between challenging and more relaxed itineraries. A basic level of fitness is necessary, and participants must be able to swim.

Can I charter the full boat with a group or as a guide?

We offer various collaboration opportunities and discounts for large groups, guides, tour operators / companies, hosts, and special projects. At Moondance Expeditions you can rent Moondance bare boat or as a full charter. We also work with local partners if you want to charter other boats. Please contact us for more information.
